We Take Sports Seriously. But Not Ourselves.

As I’m sure many of you who have been watching the NBA playoffs have noticed, the Boston Celtics seem to have a Jekil and Hyde situation going when it comes to Home and Away games. The C’s are a perfect 6-0 at home, and yet are an equally perfect 0-4 on the road. The Sportsblahg decided to investigate and here are some of our theories:

  • Paul Pierce’s gang symbols are unreadable on the road: It is similar to trying to speak Swahili in Moscow.

  • Less padding on the hoops: While the Celtics understand that they need to properly pad the basketball hoop from Kevin Garnett’s head, opposing teams use this opportunity to take padding off, so that when Mr. Garnett does his ceremonial head butt to start the game, it actually has an affect on his brain waves.
  • Doc Rivers has to actually coach: While at home the fans tend to help him coach the team (as all good Boston fans are so quick to do), but when he’s on the road he’s all alone (and it shows).

  • They miss the “wicked awesome bahstan girls”!: Enough said.

  • They’re setting a new record: First team to win an NBA championship without winning a SINGLE GAME AT HOME. No team has ever done this, but then again, why would you want to?
  • Pre-Game “Tommy Talks”: Tommy Heinsohn can no longer give them pep talks pre-game on the road, since the cost to ship him and his cryogenic chamber is just becoming too expensive.

Whatever the reason is, let’s hope that starting tonight they can turn it around and at least play a COMPETITIVE game. I think we’d all appreciate seeing them put some effort into an away game (well I guess everyone but LeBron).
