We Take Sports Seriously. But Not Ourselves.

So, while the Yankees and the Red Sox are falling over themselves to trade for some left-handed pitcher, the Detroit Tigers have just about apparently pulled off the small-market raid of the year: They basically get the two players that allow the Marlins to call themselves a major-league franchise, Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera.

In exchange, the Tigers give the Marlins a bunch of prospects to stock their team for that inexplicable third World Series title you know is coming someday soon.

Sure, Willis isn’t as good as Johan Santana, and may be overhyped in general, and Cabrera may look like he enjoys too many ribs sometimes. (But no worries, he’s in shape now! Contract!) Both the Yankees and Red Sox have third basemen now, so I’m sure neither Theo Epstein or Hank Steinbrenner is going:

“How the hell did we let this happen! Damn you, Twins! Damn you!”

“So, you still want to do this deal or what?”
