We Take Sports Seriously. But Not Ourselves.

NBA: Miami (1-7) at Boston (7-0),  7:30pm ET Friday, Check Your Local Listings

Watch as Heat Coach Pat Riley suits up and plays center (sorry, Shaq, you’re benched) for the ailing Heat. The City of Boston tries to up the ante and go to 17-0 between its NFL and NBA franchise. Sorry, Bruins.

Fun Fact: The Miami Heat roster boasts two of the three remaining active players featured in the Arcade and Console versions of NBA Jam: Alonzo Mourning and Shaquille O’Neal (the third is Houston’s Dikembe Mutombo).

NCAA Football: #7 Ohio State (10-1) at #21 Michigan (8-3), 12:00pm ET Saturday, ABC

Some people might tell you that this game means less than usual, because this is the first team neither team has been undefeated when entering this game since 1959. Others will tell you that was one of the most convoluted sentences ever created to express a meaningless statistic. A third group will tell you that the first sentence can be summed up with one word: parity!

Fun Fact: The state animal of Ohio is the White-Tailed Deer, while the state game animal of Michigan is the White-Tailed Deer. Coincidentally, deer hunting season started yesterday in Michigan. Someone’s gonna get shot.

MLS Cup: New England vs. Houston, 12:00pm ET Sunday, ABC

Apparently, there’s a big soccer game on Sunday, for all ten people who care. Some may even call it a “championship.” If Massachusetts was anything like Italy, we could expect riots on the streets of Boston Sunday night. But instead, Bostonians will sit inside on Sunday night, contently watching the Patriots steamroll the Bills.

Fun Fact: In case you were having trouble taking Major League Soccer seriously, take heart in knowing that Drew Carey is part-owner of the league’s new Seattle franchise!

  1. if you were running the MLS, why in the world would you have it on at noon on Sunday? Do they think that their product can stand up to pre-game & the start of an actual NFL game? Blows my mind. They’d be better off having it Saturday night or earlier Sunday morning.

    Max

  2. I was going to bitch and moan about the OSU game being at noon today, but now I’m watching it and it’s very boring. Now I’m glad it’s a coffee and eggs game.
