We Take Sports Seriously. But Not Ourselves.

Now that the Panthers and Redskins did their jobs and rolled over for the teams we wanted to see, the Patriots and the Colts, they are undefeated and untied, set for battle next Sunday at 4:15 EST. Here’s your checklist as the big day sneaks up on us:

Do you know the ESPN reporter assigned to cover each individual team?

Are you fully informed on the latest injury report?

Have you figured out a place to watch the game in HD?

Set up a reminder that Saturday marks the end of Daylight Savings Time, and to set your clocks back so you don’t miss the first quarter and the breathless hype provided by Jim Nantz?

Remembered that the two best quarterbacks in the game are Tom Brady and Peyton Manning? Period. Tony Kornheiser and Ron Jaworski briefly forgot this while slurping Brett “He’s like a kid!” Favre after his touchdown pass in OT Monday night to beat the Broncos.

It was awesome, yes. But then they started going on about, “Who would you rather have in this situation? Who else would you rather have right now?”

Uh, how about the two guys in The Most Important Regular Season Game In The History of The National Football League? Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, I think, would have found an open receiver that beat his man off of play action.

Look, we know the only thing NFL announcers love to hype more than Super Bowl XLI1/2 is any sign of positive play from Brett Favre. He’s having a good season. But not this week, boys. We’re watching you, Tony and Jaws. Don’t let it happen again.

  1. I didn’t even watch any of the redskins “game” Sunday for fear of my excitement over this Big Game would be tainted. Actually, I just couldn’t bring myself to listen to the inane banter between the commentators. And to look at that new split screen tool they were so fond of using the week before.

  2. No one, literally no one, hates the constant media Favre dick sucking more than me, but I have to admit - that TD in OT gave me chills. That was the quintessential head shaking moment in sports.

But yes, I’d take Brady or Manning in that spot. Because ultimately, while Brett Favre doing that on MNF gave me chills, I know that he’s just as likely to chuck that up for an interception run back for a TD.
