Happy Friday Sportsblahg nation! While I know we are working our way up to “nation” status there’s just something about Friday that gets me juiced up, it could be the fact that Roger Clemens and I hang out on Thursday nights. Regardless we have an exciting new addition to our Sportsblahg staff, since most of you have realized that The Nate is the only one that posts anymore, we decided to go out and recruit ourselves some talent (in honor of the NBA draft). Fortunately we picked better than the Knicks, but then again my 1 year cousin could have made a better selection.
Presenting to you, in his first blog ever, The Slayer. The Slayer is a recent graduate school graduate from the school of redundancies. He is a savy writer with 2 main flaws:
1. He LOVES Boston & Duke WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much.
2. He has a ridiculous obsession with the NCAA Men’s Final Four (but not in the gambling way).
We felt these flaws were minuscule compared to the warrants that are out in Chris Carrera’s name. So here he is in his Sportsblahg debut, and as always, enjoy the weekend:
Okay, so I thought it would be valuable for me to add to the massive glut of “Celtics Are Awesome” pieces that are now overwhelming the world’s newspapers, television programs, blogs, jokes on popsicle sticks, pretty much all important forms of media.
I assume that you will be more than excited to read what I have to say (Oh really? You don’t care? Not at all? And what? You would rather be sat on by the Celtics Glen “Big Baby” Davis after he went on a week long Taco Bell-only diet than read more about the Celtics? Really? Wow, Okay, well, you win. Um, I am still going to write about it though. Moving on). Read the rest of this entry »

Today seems like an excellent day to get you caught up on the truly idiotic stories involving athletes in professional sports, for some reason the hump day, just brings out the worst in the sports world:
Terry Bradshaw is an Idiot - No that’s not new news, but it is a recurring theme if you’ve ever watched him (or worse had to listen to him) on FOX’s Sunday NFL Countdown. However, Terry took his stupidity to a new level this week when speaking on the Dan Patrick show openly admitted to using steroids during his time as a player. Fortunately for him there are two kinds of steroids (ones legal and one is not), so he was able to fall back on the “I only took the legal one” defense style. It’s a good defense, but only from the law, not from the judgmental people like myself. Read the rest of this entry »

With the NBA Draft coming up, the Sportsblahg is getting you geared up with a little quiz game. Based on the widely successful “Is It A Gang Symbol” game we played earlier, we will provide you with statistics and you can tell us if we’ve got a STUD or a DUD:
Player #1:
Our First player on the list averaged a measly 16.5 points per game during his college career. Although when you back that up with 12+ rebounds per game, the stats seem to get better, as averaging a double double might. He had a .321 3-point shooting percentage in college, but only a .689 free throw shooting percentage.
You Got A: STUD - You have drafted Mr. Fundamentals himself, Tim Duncan. Leading his team to numerous NBA Championships and a perennial contender, you have a just drafted a player that is going to take your team from zero to hero. Way to go! Read the rest of this entry »

Over the hundreds of thousands of years that sports have been around, there have been moments where innovation has shown through. We at the Sportsblahg feel that a couple of them deserve real praise for the high level of creativity, thoughtfulness and desire to go above and beyond for the world of sports. Today’s product of praise is: Big League Chew

Well it’s officially the first day of summer, and for me here in San Francisco that means record temperatures in the mid-80’s. Which is a wonderful change from the mid-50’s. In honor of the first day of summer we here at the Sportsblahg decided to give you what you want, the boys of summer, doing what they do best.
Enjoy the compilation!

I have been playing in a co-ed softball league now for two years, and if there’s one thing it has taught me, it’s that females are not reliable. Well, at least the females that have been on my team and only in regards to attending games. However, it got me thinking about who I’d bring on to my co-ed team if money, celebrity status and my ineffectiveness to woo females were put aside. I think the list speaks pretty well for itself, but let’s discuss it anyway (order is based on reverse hitting position):
#9 - Jamie Sale:
Apparently according to the Gods of the mini-diamond, the #9 spot is a great spot for a short fast player, and for that we turn to the goddess of the great white north, Jamie Sale. Sure she’s a skater and not a softball player, but her size gives her an advantage at the plate. With a strike zone the size of a 6″ subway sub, she is a perfect fit to get on base and be ready to score when the big guns come up.

Unfortunately we did not have the budget to send a reporter to Game 6 to cover the Celtics 17th championship, but if we had, we feel the report would have looked something like this:
Boston Celtics 131, Los Angeles Lakers 92
BOSTON, MA - The Boston Celtics reenacted their version of the Boston Tea Party on the Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday night, en route to a 131-92 victory and their 17th NBA Championship.
It was more like a 3-party than a tea party, but the message was still the same, Boston rules, as one local fan put it, “This is WICKED AWESOME MAN, this is like the greatest thing to happen to us since the Celtics won Game 4!”. Despite a tumultuous 5 days since game 4 in which the Celtics LOST an NBA Finals game, the Red Sox lost two games to the National League and fanatical BC fan Tim Russert died; the City of Boston was practically on the verge of suicide. “Nothing has gone right for us in ALMOST A WEEK.” One Boston fan lamented before the game. “If we don’t win tonight, I’m not sure how I’ll cope with just my 2 World Series titles and my 3 Super Bowl trophies”.

I for one am a HUGE fan of the Tiger Woods golf series. Probably because it allows me to be the golfer I wish I was. Regardless, with Tiger’s epic win on Monday in what was easily one of the best U.S. Opens in at least the last two decades he is quickly becoming an even money bet to beat Jack’s record of 18 majors before he turns 35! What can Tiger possibly do these days to out do his current majors streak? Well, take a look at the difference between TPC at Sawgrass ‘08 and ‘09.

With the success of the “Hot List” clearly ingrained in the minds of the masses. Other sites are taking a page out of our playbook and celebrating the hotness that is female athletics. Two such sites are linked below for your reading pleasure:
OMG Lists - A site dedicated to all things lists explores the realm of hot women that could kick your ass at a manly thing. We at the Sportsblahg are happy to report that there is no female hotter than us, blogging about sports (that we know of).
Sports Crunch - Another cool site trying out their own version of the Hot List. They’ve done two so far, one focusing on the hottest now, and the other focusing on the hottest of all time. There are some really crazy ones in the pre-2000 and the Sportsblahg doesn’t agree with the decision to put Ronaldo’s old girlfriend in the mix, or Stacy Kiebler (Wrestling is NOT a professional sport after all). However, regardless, the Sportsblahg must agree that athletic women are quite enjoyable to look at.
Enjoy your Weekend everyone!

As I’m sure many of you who have been watching the NBA playoffs have noticed, the Boston Celtics seem to have a Jekil and Hyde situation going when it comes to Home and Away games. The C’s are a perfect 6-0 at home, and yet are an equally perfect 0-4 on the road. The Sportsblahg decided to investigate and here are some of our theories:
- Paul Pierce’s gang symbols are unreadable on the road: It is similar to trying to speak Swahili in Moscow.
